Imagine! honours
OP2000's 'New Spirit of Community' Partnership Imagine, Canada's national program to promote corporate and public giving, volunteering and support for the community, announced five winning private/voluntary sector partnerships as recipients of the 1999 Imagine "New Spirit of Community" Partnership Awards. Among the award winners were the Royal Bank Financial Group and Lutherwood Community Opportunities Development Association for their collaborative work in Opportunities 2000! Selected from nominations received from across the county, the award-winning partnerships showcase Canadian businesses that are responding to social and community needs by forming innovative collaborations with charitable, voluntary organizations. In light of dramatic cuts in government support and services, a growing number of businesses were supporting the community not simply through donations but, perhaps more importantly, through the active engagement of employee volunteers, in-kind services and other corporate resources. Criteria used in selecting the Award winners emphasized the depth and scope of the collaboration, the active involvement of the partners, creative solutions to needs and leverage of resources. Each winning partnership will receive $5,000 toward their project. More information about the Imagine program is available through its website at www.ccp.ca/imagine. OP2000 wins United Nations
