Centre for Research and Education in Human Services - An independent, non-profit organization with over 20 years of experience in community research, program evaluation, needs assessment and planning. The Centre is committed to social change and the development of communities and human services that are responsive and supportive, especially to people with limited access to power and opportunity.
Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries - a voluntary and independent voice that actively participates in building and strengthening our community through research, analysis, facilitation and education. Social Planning Council of Kitchener-Waterloo - This membership-based, community-driven organization supports the local community in a variety of ways. Best known as "Community Information Centre", it prepares and distributes information about social services to individuals and organizations. It also researches the issues and needs of the most vulnerable members in our community. Tamarack - a charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadian communities take ownership of local issues by making use of proven strategies for community engagement. It also has established a Learning Centre, designed to broadly disseminate knowledge gathered through research and practical experience; to help communities increase their power through learning; and to generate knowledge about community engagement so as to advance the field. Waterloo-Wellington Training and Adjustment Board - their mission is to work with labour market partner groups, to identify training and adjustment needs and gaps and to facilitate community partnerships to respond to labour market conditions in the Waterloo Wellington area. Canadian Council on Social Development Caledon Institute of Social Policy Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives "It was one of the most difficult times of my life... It brought me to a place of greater understanding and taught me how quickly the tides can shift. I have tremendous empathy for people who find themselves in such circumstances and don't have a strong support system. I found out that it's a pretty short walk to the street!" (Social Planning Council of Kitchener-Waterloo, Personal Stories, August 2000). The Basic Needs Guide 2005. Published by Social Planning Council Of Kitchener Waterloo. An extensive list of support services available in our Region. The intent is to help people in need connect with the resources already existing in our community. Community Information Centre - This membership-based, community-driven organization supports the local community in a variety of ways. Also known as "Social Planning Council of Kitchener Waterloo", it prepares and distributes information about social services to individuals and organizations. It also researches the issues and needs of the most vulnerable members in our community. Early Years Info - a web page that provides up to date information about schools, agencies and programs for parents and children, from prenatal to 6 years of age, in Waterloo Region. The purpose of this resource tool is to literally map their location, allowing for queries that locate services nearby your home or neighbourhood. Growing UP in the Grand River Region: The essential Guide for families and caregivers - provides information about what to do and where to go with kids under 10 in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo. It includes information about financial planning, special needs programs and locations that offer free family fun. Heating Assistance Programs 2004-2005 in Waterloo Region - an information pamphlet that describes the energy assistance program in our region, a one-time per year grant for gas, wood, oil and propane. It includes a list of community outreach sites. A guide to Community Resources for Refugees and Other Newcomers to Waterloo Region (March 2000) - An useful guide for new members of our community, providing information on education, employment, financial management, health services, housing, immigration and citizenship, parenting, social assistance and social integration, as well as transportation in our region. Volunteer Cambridge and Information Cambridge - two programs of the Cambridge Volunteer Bureau. Volunteer Cambridge encourages volunteer activity and recognition and promotes the concept of volunteerism in the communities of Cambridge and North Dumfries. Information Cambridge provides information and referrals to individuals, agencies and businesses regarding social services, recreation, government, housing, child care and other related community Services. Volunteer Action Centre of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area - serving people in Kitchener, Waterloo and Townships of Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich, it believes in a community enhanced by volunteers who share their time, resources and talents. Waterloo Region Community Legal Services - a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal services to those who meet their criteria for financial eligibility in the Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge area. They advocate for justice, particularly in support of secure housing and fair, adequate, income to supplement or replace wages from employment. Alliance for Children and Youth of Waterloo Region - They bring together a wide range of child and youth-serving agencies as well as interested individuals to better the lives of children and youth through collaborative discussions, planning and action. Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Air Quality for Waterloo Region (CACAQ) - a community coalition comprised of representatives and volunteers from approximately a dozen local member organizations, numerous other volunteers from the community, staff from the Region of Waterloo Public Health and local Municipal governments. It works with the community to improve air quality and reduce the impact of air pollution on personal health and the environment. The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Council - a group of several community partners who come from many different walks of life within the Region of Waterloo. Their common goal is to increase community safety by making crime prevention everyone's responsibility. Distress Centre Services in Waterloo Region - it provides crisis response and intervention for people who need immediate communication with a caring person. The lines are staffed by trained volunteers 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year who offer anonymous, non-judgmental listening, empathy, confidentiality and befriending. On average, they receive approximately 20,000 calls per year. Immigrant Employment Council - Born from the Immigrant Skills Summit that took place in April 28, 2005, and presently working through a preparation phase, the council will allow local leaders to coordinate and focus their efforts to assist skilled immigrants find employment in our region. The preparation phase is co-led by the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and the Centre for Research and Education in Human Services. Project READ Literacy Network Waterloo-Wellington - founded on September 7, 1988 by the literacy agencies in Waterloo Region. Since its beginning, the network has been devoted to promoting literacy issues and programs to the community, bringing literacy practitioners together, and improving service delivery. This mandate of information and support remains the heart of the organization. Prosperity Council of Waterloo Region - a federation formed to collectively create an environment that supports opportunities for prosperity in Waterloo Region. The Council is comprised of representatives of its founding partners: the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber, Cambridge Chamber, Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc. and Communitech Technology Association. Together these organizations represent more than 3000 businesses in our region. Waterloo Region Homelessness Network - formerly known as the Waterloo Region Community Homelessness Working Group, it includes community members, faith groups, social service agencies and government representatives. It has been working since 1999 to respond to homelessness in Waterloo Region. The Homelessness Network has now been replaced by the Waterloo Region Homelessness and Housing Umbrella Group (HHUG). Cambridge Chamber of Commerce - committed to the enhancement of economic prosperity and the quality of life in Cambridge. Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce - built on the vision and drive of volunteer leaders who knew they could accomplish more by working together and that the business community has a unique role in building our community. As a member supported alliance, the Council serves artist and arts organizations of all disciplines and traditions.
